FLIPPING TABLEBAG

For this project, I aimed to solve the issue of picnic setups on the ground when dining with multiple people. This product transforms into a 30 inch-long extended table and folds in on itself into a 12 inch-wide carry-on bag.

This is a transforming bag with insulators to store food and a cup for drinking. When flipped, it becomes a small table that can hold up to 100lbs. It’s small enough and planar making it suitable as a side table to rest food on top of. Unhook the backpack straps. Remove the cup that is attached to the interior of the bag with velcro. Open the bag all the way up to access the insulation pockets. And the insulation makes it perfect for on the go food and maintaining cold or warm temperatures. Next, flip the widely opened bag to the opposite side. Bring the flaps of the bag inward 90 degrees. Slide the cup under the centerpiece of the bag. This allows the bag to be transformed into a form fitting table.

PROCESS

The faces of the bag are layered acrylic pieces laser cut into rectangles.The hinges are 3D printed PLA plastic held together by 18 gauge wire. The first step was to create a 3D render on Fusion 360 to measure out each piece. I also created a 3D buckle to attatch the straps later. For the interior of the bag, it contains 2 insulation bags that come in layers. They are attached with velcro and can be detached and made flat when emptied. This makes it easier to flip the bag over when it’s fully extended. The straps of the bag are faux leather from recycled old purses.
